Description
16th Century Inscribed And Dated Chinese Bronze Standing Monk. Very nicely cast bronze Monk standing on a double lotus pedestal with hands together and a wonderfully expressed face. Appropriate patina with remnants of gilt and red, green, black lacquer. The robes have nice floral brocade details and two unusual Phoenix in relief on the outer and inner robe. There are five lines of inscription indicating that this was commissioned my a devotee Liu_ (???—) and dated to the fifteenth day of the first month of the sixth year of the Wanli reign - 1578. Offered with a later green painted wood base that had been used for display (CNEW501)(PR)
