Alfred Eisenstaedt

American 1898-1995

Alfred Eisenstaedt  began his career in Germany before World War II but achieved prominence after moving to the U.S. In 1936 he was hired by Henry Luce, along with Margaret Bourke-White, Peter Stackpole, and Thomas McAvoy as one of four staff photographers for the new LIFE magazine. Eisenstaedt remained at LIFE for more than 40 years and where his photographs were used for over 90 covers.
