Description

A 19th Century painting of Penelope attributed to Charles Marchal. Appears to be closely based on the artist's larger composition of Penelope in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Matches the description of the smaller-scale Penelope auctioned in 1882 from the John Wolfe Collection, found in the Catalogue of Mr. John Wolfe's Gallery of Valuable Paintings (George A. Leavitt & Co, New York, 1882) pg 22, lot 65
