Chinese Export Large Armorial Pot, 19th century Well painted with the crest of the British chivalric Order of the Garter with a shield flanked by Lion and Unicorn and surmounted by "Honi soit qui mal y pense" which is the Middle French maxim, meaning "shamed be whoever thinks bad of it" used by the order. Underneath on a scroll reads "Dieu et mon droit" meaning "God and my right" which is also usually accompanying the crest. The other side has the monogram letters H and E. Floral sprays and gilt decorated handles and borders complete the design. Dimensions::8 1/2" high Property from a private Manhattan collection
