Gene Meyer studied fashion design at New York’s Parsons School of Design, and won three awards for design while there. After a stint designing under Donna Karan at Anne Klein, Meyer then worked for legendary fashion designer Geoffrey Beene for 11 years before launching eponymous women's and men’s collections for which he won two CFDA Awards. His first venture under the Gene Meyer label was a women’s made-to-order collection. This collection led to many licensing agreements, the most famous being his sought-after collection of graphic silk men’s ties.
