Must-See Exhibits in the Neighborhood

Robert NatkinA Better Place

Until April 26th at Sundaram Tagore Gallery

This is a rare exhibition of paintings by celebrated American colorist Robert Natkin (1930–2010), spanning five decades of his vibrant, abstract work. Known for his luminous color, layered textures, and dynamic compositions, Natkin’s art is held in major institutions like MoMA and the Guggenheim. This is the gallery’s first solo show of Natkin’s work since acquiring exclusive global representation of his estate. A must-see for lovers of bold, expressive abstraction, the exhibition offers a fresh look at one of the 20th century’s most innovative painters.

Leonor Fini: Small Faces

Until May 24th at Nagas

This exhibition offers a glimpse into the intimate, small-scale drawings of Leonor Fini (1907–1996), a fiercely independent artist who defied Surrealist conventions. Known for her enigmatic figures — sphinxes, sorceresses, and androgynous beings — Fini explored themes of transformation, identity, and psychological depth. Her delicate yet powerful works on paper reveal an artist attuned to the nuances of expression and emotion. On view in Nagas' new space in the historic Tin Pan Alley district, this show highlights Fini’s lesser-known yet essential practice. It is worth a visit for those drawn to the surreal, the mystical, and the beautifully subversive.

Co Westerik - Later Paintings: 2002-2016

Until May 17th at Fergus and McCaffery

Fergus McCaffrey presents the first U.S. solo exhibition of Dutch painter Co Westerik. Known for his hauntingly intimate depictions of the human experience, Westerik’s work blends Symbolism, Surrealism, and early Renaissance influences. His dreamlike figures and landscapes explore themes of fragility, resilience, and existential wonder. This exhibition offers a chance to discover an artist revered in the Netherlands but largely unseen abroad, and a great opportunity for those drawn to introspective, hauntingly poetic imagery that lingers in the mind long after viewing.
