Positano Landscape #3, a highlight of Yektai’s 1959 exhibition at Poindexter Gallery is an expressive abstraction of the Italian countryside and a masterwork. “From his work in Positano ... he has uncovered a vein of Lyrical Expressionism... bringing Soutine up to date” (
Arts Magazine, 1959). Manoucher Yektai’s career spans eight decades and is thoroughly detailed on Yektai.com.
“For years [he] worked with his delicately balanced combinations of abstraction and representation. In his attempt to highlight the virtues of both the world-affirming School of Paris
representationalism and the paint-as-presence mysticism of New York School reductionism, Yektai has been compared by critics to Nicolas de Stael, Richard Diebenkorn, Elaine de Kooning, Frank Auerbach, Henri Matisse, Hans Hoffman, Leon Kossof, Asger Jorn, Karel Appel, Pierre Bonnard, and others.” (Yektai.com)
